Girard Old Vines Zinfandel

Last night for dinner we tried a new wine.  We all enjoyed every sip and if you find this at your local wine store, I highly recommend it.  Girard Old Vine Zinfandel is from Napa Valley and it is bold and complex with a dark ruby color.  The aromas offer dark chocolate covered cherries, blueberries, and plums.  Winter spices and underlying layers of mocha round out this powerful wine.  The tannins will present a soft structure and are well integrated in the wine

Girard 2010 Old Vine Zinfandel is sourced from the Godward vineyard in Calistoga and Morgan vineyards on Mt. Vaca. Mt. Vaca is the highest peak of the Vaca range, which forms the Eastern border of the Napa Valley. The fruit concentration from these vineyards ensure that this Old Vine Zinfandel has rich flavor extraction, a fruit-forward palate and wonderful layers of complexity from multiple soil types.

The grapes were hand-sorted and crushed to stainless steel fermentors. Pumpovers were done as gently as possible to avoid undesirable harsh tannin extraction. Pressed at dryness into 35% new oak, primarily French, with a small percentage of American and Hungarian oak, as well.  Visit their website at www.girardwinery.com.
